Danny Maitland is a complicated man. A gifted psychologist with an extraordinary past. But his friends and family are worried. Since the tragic suicide of a young girl placed in his care and a subsequent mental breakdown, Danny has gradually and quietly withdrawn from everyday life... and worse still, he's hitting the bottle - hard.

Is he drinking to forget? Hiding from the truth? Or simply seeking salvation at the bottom of a whisky glass? Either way, Danny's on a slippery slope, rushing headlong into the darkness of his tortured soul. A date with destiny seems inevitable.

Returning to work at the Mountview Psychiatric Hospital, treating those only marginally more fragile than himself - surely it's a simple matter of time before redemption or damnation comes a-calling...

With a sinister turn of events, which sees an all too familiar person re-enter Danny's life and a rash of terrifying hallucinations, can everything really be what it seems?

A young patient's persistent rants echo along the corridors of Mountview. He speaks of a million souls and their eternal suffering. Are they the insignificant cries of a raving lunatic, or the key to Danny's steady descent into the realms of insanity?
